{"id":234,"date":"2013-04-25T12:52:59","date_gmt":"2013-04-25T17:52:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.the-belt.org\/?p=234"},"modified":"2013-04-25T12:56:23","modified_gmt":"2013-04-25T17:56:23","slug":"family-a-poem","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.the-belt.org\/?p=234","title":{"rendered":"family (a poem)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Were my chest made of oak,<br \/>\nor the past centuries, the seams of a<br \/>\nlibrary&#8217;s great enlightenment, or the<br \/>\nstrange atmospheric feeling of love, could<br \/>\nI be opened up easier?<\/p>\n<p>Could I splinter in our embrace and<br \/>\ntaste the moss of your lips and with that<br \/>\ncorrectly set the family table in your mind,<br \/>\nplace the fork here and the knife there,<br \/>\na salad plate, a glass of milk, and a smile<br \/>\nthat is passed around the table like a medicine ball.<\/p>\n<p>Could I give you this?<br \/>\nAm I able to fill the voids you present<br \/>\nas the reason for your own solitude?<br \/>\nWere I an antique and handled like<br \/>\na Mongolian relic, I could be balanced<br \/>\nonto a shelf of your consciousness and<br \/>\nonly whisper to you wordlessly that<br \/>\nthe tears you may dust off of me are<br \/>\nfor you, in a language you could not<br \/>\ndecipher and become<br \/>\na treasure you are not too terrified to touch.<\/p>\n<p>But I am made of nothing but a tension<br \/>\nbetween my bones,<br \/>\nboth hollow and forever cloying,<br \/>\ncolorless, bright, and lost;<br \/>\ninflating the features<br \/>\nof my face that are repellant<br \/>\nto your solitude, to your idea of<br \/>\nhappiness;<br \/>\nI can reach with my fingers,<br \/>\nlisten to the gasp of my movement,<br \/>\ntry\u00a0to shape the words after they have<br \/>\ncreated castles, but I will not.<br \/>\nI am this tension and this tension shapes nothing.<br \/>\nI am left here contemplating,<br \/>\nbeginning to combust.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Were my chest made of oak, or the past centuries, the seams of a library&#8217;s great enlightenment, or the strange atmospheric feeling of love, could I be opened up easier?
